Halloween Table Runner

Decorating for Halloween doesn't have to be expensive. A little DIY and bargain hunting can do the trick. I used Best Creation Inc.'s iron-on vinyl to decorate a table runner I purchased at my local dollar store and I am using every bit of iron-on scraps so let's get started.

The table runner measures 13"w x 36" for under two dollars. I am still using scraps from the black glitter iron-on roll, but Best Creation Inc. also carries 8.5" x 11" sheets of glitter iron-on sheets for smaller projects.

I downloaded the FREE Halloween Witch and Cats from Dreaming Tree. The witch appears to be holding something, so I added bats. In Cricut Design Space, I searched for "bats" I then inserted the bats onto the canvas and placed them near her hands. I used the weld feature in Design Space and added more bats. It's bat stew for dinner. Next, trimmed the iron-on vinyl and prepared to cut.

To save on iron-on vinyl, I clustered all the images as close as possible. I carefully weeded the images and cut out the images.

I preheat the iron to the highest setting and used the app to reference the image for placement onto the fabric. Working on hard surface works best when using a household iron. Carefully cover the image with fabric, I use a pillow case, it's thick enough to protect the plastic and thin enough to heat set the iron-on. Then press firmly for 30 seconds. Carefully pull back the plastic. If needed, iron the back side of the fabric, but lower the iron setting to cotton or cover the iron-on with a piece of fabric, in my case a pillow case, to avoid scorching.

There you have it, serving up bats for dinner it is!

Feels Like Monday #DIYIronOn

Doesn't it though?! It feels like Monday after a 3-day weekend or simply when you're feeling bleh. I created this t-shirt using Best Creation Inc. glitter iron-on vinyl.  It was super easy to make, let's get started.

In Adobe Illustrator®, I used the Peach Milk font, (free for personal use) to create the "Feels Like Monday."
I changed the offset path to make the letters easier to cut. I also changed the height. You can also create the saying within Design Space, I just prefer to work in Adobe Illustrator®.
I then imported the SVG file to Cricut's Design Studio and prepared the black glitter iron-on to cut.

I find it easier to work with their app and I can quickly reference the image to help with weeding. I start on the outside and cut the excess as I work my way through the design.

I preheat the iron to the highest setting and aligned the image to the t-shirt. Working on hard surface works best when using a household iron. Cover the image with fabric, I use a pillow case, it's thick enough to protect the plastic and thin enough to allow the heat of the iron. Then press firmly for 30 seconds. Carefully pull back the plastic. If needed, iron the back side of the t-shirt, but lower the iron setting to cotton or cover your shirt with a piece of fabric, in my case a pillow case, to avoid scorching.

Fun and so easy to create! Even if it does feel like a Monday.

She’s gorgeous isn’t she? The Mermaid has to be one of my favorite designs by U-Paint Metal Crafts. I mean, I have many favorites, but she’s is my favorite fave. Here’s how to recreate the Mermaid Art Journal.

• Nuvo® Embellishment Mousse Mother of Pearl 804N by Tonic Studios
• Nuvo® Pure Sheen Glitter Aqua 714N by Tonic Studios
• Nuvo® Deluxe Adhesive 200N by Tonic Studios
• Nuvo® Crystal Drops by Tonic Studios
  • 670N Crystal Drops Gloss Caribbean Ocean
  • 662N Crystal Drops Gloss Crushed Grape
• Beacon® Adhesive 527™
• Colorbox® ColoriQue by Lisa Marie Jimenez
  • Turquoise Mountain
  • Honey Bee
  • Grape Vine
  • Sealant
• Denim journal
• Heavy white Gesso
• Stencil
• Embellishments
• Jute
• Heat Tool
• Paint brushes

1. Wash the Mermaid with hot soapy water. Do not dry or seal.

2. Allow the Mermaid to rust, that’s part of her beauty. Add the Grape Vine, Honey Bee and Turquoise Mountain ColoriQue with sponge daubers. use the heat tool to heat set the paint. Next, lightly sand her tail and any other place you would like the metal to shine through. Allow to dry completely and brush on the ColoriQue Sealant. Set her aside.

3. Using a silicone brush, apply a generous amount of Heavy White Gesso to front of the denim journal and allow to dry. Next, add a few drops of Grape Vine, Honey Bee and Turquoise Mountain ColoriQue and brush it on. Use the heat tool to heat set.

5. Place the stencil along the edges of the cover and randomly spread on Nuvo® Embellishment Mousse Mother of Pearl and allow to dry.

6. I distressed the edges of the papers and die cuts with a pair of scissors, then inked the edges to darken them up. I spread some Nuvo® Deluxe Adhesive on the flower petals and paper, then sprinkled Nuvo® Pure Sheen Glitter Aqua.

7. Using Beacon® Adhesive 527™, I glued down the doily, paper, jute and flower clusters and allowed to dry.

8. I added some scaly embellishments that resemble the Mermaid‘s tale and then glued her down with a generous amount of Beacon® Adhesive 527™.

9. For the final touch, I added Nuvo® Crystal Drops in Caribbean Ocean and Crushed Grape. I love how they add the perfect touch!

DIY Mini Halloween Canvas Bags

Sticking to a Halloween post a week 'til Halloween, I bring you this week's project. I am using Best Creation Inc.'s iron-on vinyl to make these cute mini canvas bags. I am using every bit of iron-on scraps so let's get started.

I purchase the mini white canvas tote for .50 at my local craft store. Love when that happens. You will of course need orange and black glitter iron-on vinyl.

In Cricut Design Space, I searched for "boo" and "bats".  I inserted the images onto the canvas and made a few changes. First, the "boo" is a photo prop image, so I bit of "hide contour" to only include the word "boo". Next, I unlocked the bat proportion and skewed them to appear in flight. I trimmed the iron-on vinyl and prepared to cut.

To save on iron-on vinyl, I clustered the 6 bats to cut as close as possible to each other. I also trimmed the around the word "boo" to allow room for the bats. I then used the app to reference the image for placement.

DIY Travel T-Shirt #RoadTrip

Road trip! I'm getting ready for the last road trip of the season. I created a travel t-shirt using Best Creation Inc. glitter iron-on vinyl.  It was super easy to make, let's get started.

In Adobe Illustrator®, I used the Arial Narrow font, (free for personal use) to create the "Road Trip."
The font is a bit thin to cut properly on my Cricut Explore Air. I changed the offset path to make the letters easier to cut. I also changed the height. You can also create saying within Design Space, I just prefer to work in Adobe Illustrator®.

I placed the word "road" on top and "trip" where the hood/grill of the car. I selected all and aligned the designs. Prepared the black glitter iron-on to cut.
