Sunflower Shadow Box #UPaintMetal

Today is my first project post for U-Paint Metal Craft Kits®! I'm super excited to share!
I used the Sunflower from the 4pc Metal Flowers Kit. It's also available to purchases the Sunflower here.

Let's get started! You will need to wash your metal piece before painting, you can find the suggested directions here. After washing, I sprayed a primer, allowing it to dry between coats. I also primed the shadow box.

I then painted the Sunflower with white acrylic paint. I dusted off my eBrush by Craftwell and started airbrushing. I used Sharpies to airbrush the Sunflower yellow.

I then eBrushed the center and the outer petals with an orange Sharpie.

Missing photo: Sometimes I get into a creative groove and forget to stop and snap a photo. So the photo of the center being eBrushed with brown is missing. Oops!

I painted the shadow box in bright acrylic colors, purple, green and orange. I applied two coats of each color. While the paint dried, I created my stencil.
I used a FREE file by Dreaming Tree. It's a book mark SVG file. I used the features "hide and contour" and "weld" in Cricut Design Space. You can download the bookmark here.

I placed the stencil inside the shadow box and used Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. I added "handles" with washi tape to the stencil for easy removal.

I applied a generous amount and spread it with a short handle spatula.

I loved this DIY stencil and that Mousse! It adds the perfect background and texture to the shadow box!

I hot glued a string of rhinestones to the edge of the shadow box and attached the Sunflower with adhesive foam.

Here is a closeup of the Sunflower! Goodness I loved how it turned out!

Mod Podge 50th Birthday Blog Hop

Mod Podge is celebrating 50 years of creativity and we, AFCI Designers are celebrating right along with a Blog Hop!

For my project, I am giving some much needed TLC to wood folding tray table.
(The supply list is at the bottom of the post.)

The table was accidentally left outside. It has water stains and the top is a bit warped, but still salvageable. I cleaned it up and sanded the top.
I then sprayed the top with a white flat paint. I painted the top white because the fabric has white stripes and I didn't want the wood grain peering through.
Once the 3rd coat of white paint dried, I masked off the top with butcher paper.
I then painted the bottom including, the rounded edges with Folk Art Chalkboard black paint. While the 2nd coat chalkboard paint dried, I started prepping the fabric.

Follow the instructions on the Mod Podge Fabric bottle.
I washed and ironed the fabric as instructed. I wanted the rounded edges of the tables to show, so I measured the surface I wanted covered. I transferred the measurements onto butcher paper to create a pattern, if you will. I pinned the pattern to the fabric and cut.
I then applied the Mod Podge Fabric to the backside of the fabric. I started applying with a foam brush. Negative. It dragged the fabric all over the place. The instructions clearly stated, apply with fingers. So, I followed the instructions and it worked so much better.
Adding the Mod Podge to the backside of the fabric helps stiffen the fabric and prevents the edges from fraying. The instructions called for 2 hours to dry. Since I was heavy handed with the Mod Podge, there I go again, not following instructions, I waited 4 hours to dry completely. {Smiles}

I was then ready to apply the fabric to the table top. I covered half of the table with the Mod Podge, applying a coat as evenly as possible. I then placed the fabric and then did the other half.
I took the brayer and smoothed out any air bubbles.
After waiting 24 hours for it to dry, I applied a layer of Mod Podge to the top of the fabric. I waited 48 hours for it to dry completely.

The makeover is complete! Here she is all prettied up!

There were a few air bubbles that appeared after it dried, but the floral striped fabric is very forgiving. You can't really see them unless, you are up close and personal.

I love the makeover! Ready to work out the details of my next project in DCWV Platinum Planner! {A frothy coffee helps!}
